Kindness Academy Afterschool Program

Kind Works is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable teacher to support our Kindness Academy afterschool program for fourth- and fifth-grade students.

The teacher will work alongside Kind Works staff, an art instructor and high school mentors to create a welcoming, engaging and inclusive environment. Students will explore kindness, empathy, emotional awareness, connection and leadership through interactive lessons, team-building activities, meaningful conversations and creative projects.

Teacher Responsibilities

  • Lead age-appropriate lessons focused on kindness and social-emotional intelligence

  • Engage students in interactive team-building activities and group discussions

  • Take attendance and help manage student arrival and dismissal

  • Oversee student pickup to ensure a safe and organized dismissal process

  • Guide and support high school mentors as they work with younger students

  • Encourage student participation, connection and positive behavior

  • Assist students with hands-on art projects led by the program’s art instructor

  • Collaborate with Kind Works staff during pre-program meetings and preparation

No art experience is required. A dedicated art instructor will lead the creative portion of the program.

Fall 2026 Program Dates

  • September 28–October 8, 2026

  • October 19–29, 2026

  • November 30–December 10, 2026

Each program meets Monday through Thursday for two weeks at the Kind Works Studio in Bethel.

  • Pre-program meeting and preparation: 3:45–4:00 p.m.

  • Student program: 4:00–5:30 p.m.

Applicants may be available for one, two or all three program blocks.

Hours required per day

  • Each program day includes:

    • A 15-minute pre-program meeting and preparation period

    • A 90-minute program session with students

  • Eight program days per two-week block

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working with fourth- and fifth-grade students

  • Has experience teaching or facilitating social-emotional learning

  • Can lead interactive lessons and team-building activities

  • Creates a welcoming, encouraging and inclusive environment

  • Is dependable, energetic and comfortable managing a group

  • Can provide guidance and support to high school mentors

  • Believes in the importance of kindness, empathy and positive student connections
